What is a venous ultrasound used for?

A venous ultrasound checks how blood flows through your leg veins and whether the valves are working. It is the primary test for varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Is the test uncomfortable?

No. It is non-invasive and painless — a technician moves a small probe with gel over the skin. The exam typically takes 30 to 45 minutes and requires no recovery time.
