Plantar Fasciitis is the most common cause of chronic heel pain. It occurs when plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot, becomes inflamed. Plantar Fasciitis Embolization (PFE) is a safe and effective procedure which involves selectively blocking and reducing the increased blood flow to the inflamed plantar fascia.
Interventional radiologists conduct this minimally invasive procedure to reduce the inflammation and pain associated with plantar fasciitis that has not improved with conservative therapy (known as refractory plantar fasciitis).
